Veterinary Medicine Tutoring Service

The tutoring activity directs and assists students, enabling them to actively participate in the training process and removing, as far as the university is concerned, any obstacles to a productive academic career. There are different types of activities at the Department of Veterinary Sciences

Reception tutoring

Tutoring service guided first year students enrolled in the academic year 2020-21 to settle into the Department environment, both regarding studies and social relations, despite the difficulties related to the health emergency and the need to provide lessons exclusively remotely. Two senior students, first year teachers and members of the Department’s tutoring body contributed to this particular form of tutoring. Based on the Covid situation, the reception tutoring set could also be re-proposed for the year 2021-2022.

Tutoring activities in the Orientation and Tutoring Project (POT)

Tutoring for Veterinary Medicine students enrolled in the 1st year

The POT-SSVET project is active in the Department of Veterinary Sciences, reserved for first-year Veterinary Medicine students who have identified Additional Learning Requirements (OFA) or who have started their first-year activities late due to changes in the national ranking. First-year students can contact senior students through the following email address:

potmv.tutoratoimmatricolati@vet.unipi.it

Using this address it is also possible to organize interviews remotely on the Microsoft Teams platform. In addition to the senior students, it is possible to interact, when necessary, with the President of the Degree Course and/or with the teacher members of the Tutoring, Orientation in entry and Peer Tutoring Body of the Department.

FAQ FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

Tutoring for off-course Veterinary Medicine students

This project helps students who have been off-course for several years by trying to understand the causes that led to the delay in their studies and therefore to help them resolve problems, stimulating them to take exams to finish their course. The tutoring activity is also extended to students who have restarted studying after long periods of interruption and to those who have requested the equivalence of the foreign qualification and have to take only a few remaining exams on the Degree Course, in addition to the pre-professional training and the Degree thesis. Those interested in this project can contact the tutor students through the following email address:

potmv.tutoratofuoricorso@vet.unipi.it

Using this address it is also possible to organize interviews remotely on the Microsoft Teams platform. In addition to the tutor students, it is possible to interact, when necessary, with the President of the Degree Course and/or with the teacher members of the Tutoring, Orientation in entry and Peer Tutoring Body of the Department.

Tutor teachers

The University Tutoring Regulations (D.R. 27/5/2008 and subsequent amendments) provides for the activation of a service for the student, with the assignment of a “Tutor” teacher. After the end of the 1st semester of the 1st year, each undergraduate student is assigned a Tutor and the list of these assignments is published. The student is initially contacted by the Tutor and then can contact the Tutor personally if necessary. The e-mail address and telephone number of the teachers, as well as the weekly reception hours, is on the page Course Teachers.

Until the academic year 2019-2020, at the end of the 1st semester of the 1st year each student of the Degree Course was assigned a tutor. The student was initially contacted by the Tutor whom they could/can contact in case of need during the course of study. Recently, the Academic Senate, with a specific resolution (71/2020 of 16/04/2020), authorized the Departments to experiment with new organizational methods for tutor teachers, different from those specified in the current Regulations, in order to prepare its future modification. For this reason, in the academic year 2020/2021 the Degree Course, instead of assigning a teacher tutor to each first year student and who is then maintained for the entire university career, assigned a limited number of teachers not to the individual student but to all students of the course year (a team of teacher tutors of the year). These were chosen among those most suitable for the role, including the Year Coordinator, already a figure of the DC. In this way, students change tutor teachers from one course year to the next, while always having a tutoring activity available for the problems they encounter in a specific year.
