Farmacologia e Tossicologia Veterinaria

VET/07 - FARMACOLOGIA E TOSSICOLOGIA VETERINARIA  (EX: V33A - FARMACOLOGIA E TOSSICOLOGIA VETERINARIA)
Il settore raggruppa discipline e tematiche di ricerca che riguardano lo studio dei farmaci di interesse veterinario e in particolare ne considera il meccanismo di azione e farmacodinamia, farmacocinetica, le indicazioni terapeutiche, modalità e forme di somministrazione nelle diverse specie animali, farmacovigilanza e farmacosorveglianza nonché - limitatamente alle specie da reddito - le norme legislative nazionali ed europee finalizzate alla tutela della salute pubblica e dell'ambiente. È altresì specifico interesse del settore lo studio delle fonti, delle proprietà dinamiche e cinetiche, dei rilievi sintomatologici e autoptici propri di sostanze tossiche di origine diversa attinenti al mondo agricolo e veterinario per la definizione di provvedimenti antidotali e conservativi, della salvaguardia del benessere animale e dell'ambiente, dell’influenza da esse esplicata sulle produzioni zootecniche e della possibilità di utilizzo degli animali come indicatori biologici di stati contaminativi ambientali. L'attività del settore si completa con lo studio delle principali metodologie farmaco-tossicologiche di carattere biotecnologico suscettibili di utilizzazione in campo veterinario.

Resistenza ai farmaci antibiotici con l’utilizzo sia di tecniche colturali (diluizione, microdiluizione, disco-diffusione) che molecolari (PCR) su isolati di patogeni e commensali con particolare attenzione agli stafilococchi isolati dal cane ed ai meccanismi di resistenza ai fluorochinoloni e la meticillino-resistenza.

Farmacocinetica, deplezione dei residui e sicurezza d’uso di farmaci veterinari e contaminanti inclusi studi di cinetica plasmatica e residuale sia negli animali da reddito (con particolare interesse verso le specie minori e le specie ittiche) sia negli animali d’affezione (cane), incluso lo sviluppo di metodiche analitiche classiche (HPLC) ed innovative (sensori elettrochimici) e la valutazione della sicurezza nella specie bersaglio nelle condizioni d’uso proposte.

Valutazione della tossicità di farmaci, micotossine e contaminanti inclusi studi di valutazione della tossicità di xenobiotici su vari modelli sperimentali, con particolare riferimento a specie acquatiche (vertebrati ed invertebrati), anche mediante l’identificazione di biomarker di esposizione e di tossicità.

Farmacologia comparata delle funzioni gastro-intestinali, inclusi lo studio dei meccanismi di controllo e modulazione delle secrezioni esocrine ed endocrine e della motilità del tratto gastro-intestinale del cane con particolare riferimento ai meccanismi di controllo colinergico, adrenergico, istaminergico e peptidergico.

Parassitologia e Malattie Parassitarie Degli Animali

VET/06 - PARASSITOLOGIA E MALATTIE PARASSITARIE DEGLI ANIMALI  (EX: V32B - PARASSITOLOGIA E MALATTIE PARASSITARIE DEGLI ANIMALI DOMESTICI)
Il settore rappresenta un complesso culturale-scientifico che studia miceti, protozoi e metazoi (parassiti) che determinano negli organismi animali (ospiti) fenomeni patologici normalmente definiti "malattie parassitarie", numerose delle quali sono zoonosi; sviluppa le conoscenze di base sui parassiti, sulla loro biologia e sul rapporto parassita-ospite-ambiente, affrontandone gli aspetti sistematici, evoluzionistici, genetici, ecologici, immunologici, fisiologici e patologici, anche mediante l'utilizzazione di metodologie statistico-matematiche, biochimiche e molecolari; mette a punto aspetti applicativi, quali l'epidemiologia, la diagnosi, la profilassi, la terapia e il controllo delle malattie parassitarie dell'uomo, degli animali domestici e degli animali selvatici, compresa la lotta ai vettori di malattia e i fattori socio-economici legati alle parassitosi. Le competenze formative riguardano l'entomologia sanitaria e le tecniche di disinfestazione, la parassitologia, l'ecoparassitologia e la gestione sanitaria della fauna selvatica, le malattie parassitarie e micotiche degli animali e la loro epidemiologia, le biotecnologie applicate alla parassitologia.

Francesca Mancianti is full Professor in Veterinary Parasitology (University of Pisa, Italy) since 2006, de facto member EVPC since 2003.

Her current teaching activity covers the Chair of Veterinary Parasitology since 2002/2003 at University of Pisa, Mycology in Post graduated course of Animal Health, University of Pisa since the same year, Parasitic diseases in Post graduated course of Food Hygiene, University of Pisa since 1998/99 and Parasitology (diagnostic techniques) in Post graduated course of Microbiology and Virology, University of Pisa, since 1996/97.

She is member ofRoyal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (since 1985), The Society of Protozoologists (since 1988) and International Society for Human and Veterinary Mycology (since 1990)

Her current researches deal with application of biomolecular technologies in the epidemiology, clinical diagnosis and treatment of parasitic zoonoses such as leishmaniasis and toxoplasmosis in animals, the epidemiology and biochemical and molecular characterization of commensal and environmental yeasts, potentially hazardous for human health. Other interests are in vitro and in vivo sensitivity of yeast and moulds to both conventional and alternative antimycotic drugs.

Her peer review activity includes Editorial boards and activity as referee for scientific journals with high Impact Factor in the field of parasitology and mycology.

She is first author or co-author in more than 150 papers in peer review journals.

RESEARCH IN VETERINARY PARASITOLOGY

She is the author of over 100 publications in national and international journals on parasites and parasitic diseases of domestic, wild and exotic animals.

Research Topics: biology, epidemiology, diagnosis and control control of parasites, zoonotic species included, of domestic, wild, exotic, pet and farmed animals, evaluation of the antiparasitic efficacy of natural compounds and identification of new parasitic species.

Laureato nel 1992 in Scienze Biologiche,

Abilitato all’esercizio della professione di biologo nel 1994

Nel 1996 è risultato vincitore di n. 1 Borsa di studio presso la Scuola di Specializzazione in “Scienza e tecnica delle piante officinali presso il Dipartimento di Biorganica e Biofarmacia di Pisa.

Negli anni 2000-2001, con un contratto della Società Solvay chimica S.p.A, ha condotto una indagine sperimentale sull'utilizzazione come lettiera del CRG, materiale di scarto industriale, in allevamenti avicoli ed in animali di laboratorio, mediante controlli parassitologici, batteriologici e micologici. Nello stesso periodo ha eseguito analisi di laboratorio su materiale ittico proveniente dalla Garfagnana,nell'ambito del programma "Monitoraggio sanitario negli allevamenti ittici della Garfagnana" ed ha condotto studi sullo stato sanitario di Procambarus clarkii proveniente dal lago di Massaciuccoli in relazione alle variazioni ambientali.

Nell'anno 2001 ha frequentato e collaborato con il Dipartimento di Sanità Pubblica Veterinaria e Patologia Animale dell'Università di Medicina Veterinaria di Bologna.

Dal 2002 prende servizio come ricercatore afferendo al Dipartimento di Patologia Animale Profilassi ed Igiene degli Alimenti della Facoltà di Medicina Veterinaria Pisa.

Dal 2003 svolge attività di ricerca presso il Dipartimento di Patologia Animale, Profilassi e Igiene degli Alimenti in collaborazione con vari Istituti Italiani e esteri svolgendo ricerche su estratti vegetali per azione insetticida, larvicida, e ovicida nei confronti di Aedes albopictus e di altri ectoparassiti e svolge ricerche sullo stato sanitario dei pesci provenienti dal lago di Massaciuccoli.

Nel 2007 ha partecipato al Progetto finanziato da MERIAL "Indagine epidemiologica della Dirofilariosi in Toscana.

Dal 2007 conduce studi parassitologici su animali domestici e selvatici con particolare attenzione a volpi e lupi e collabora dal 2010 con Institut für Parasitologie Vetsuisse-Fakultät und Medizinische Fakultät di Zurigo.

Nel 2008 ha svolto indagini sui flebotomi in Toscana.

Nel 2008 ha vinto una borsa di studio per il corso di formazione "Management of programmes for communicable diseases control in Sub-Saharan Africa", organizzato dalla Fondazione Ivo de Carneri con il patrocinio dell'Istituto di Malattie Infettive e Tropicali, Università di Brescia presso il Laboratorio di Sanita' Pubblica Ivo de Carneri sull'isola di Pemba (Tanzania).

Nel 2008 è stato responsabile per la sede di Pisa del progetto PRIN 2008: caratterizzazione molecolare e studi epidemiologici su elminti di interesse zoonosico in prodotti ittici nazionali. Titolo del PRIN “Opistorchiasi zoonosi emergente (Toscana e Liguria)”

Nel 2009 è stato responsabile del progetto "Esperimento di lotta alla lotta alla zanzara tigre "Aedes albopictus" con determinate procedure di intervento nella città di Montecatini terme".

Collabora dal 2010 al progetto "Supporto al sistema sanitario Boliviano" in collaborazione con il centro LIDIVET di Santa Cruz Bolivia e le Università degli Studi di Firenze e "La Sapienza di Roma" per condurre studi sulle principali malattie zoonotiche parassitarie nel Chaco boliviano.

Insegnamenti

Dal 2002 insegna parassitologia presso l’Università degli studi di Pisa e dal 2010 anche presso la scuola “Tekove Katu” Gutierrez Bolivia. Ha svolto un ciclo di lezioni di parassitologia presso Uludag University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Department of Parasitology Bursa Turchia nell’anno 2013 mediante l’assegnazione di una borsa per la mobilità dei docenti nell’ambito del Lifelong Learning Programme.

Ha svolto inoltre attività di tutorato in varie tesi di laurea

Fabio Macchioni graduated in 1992 with Summa cum Laude in Biological Sciences University of Pisa with Thesis: “Morphologic and genetic characterization of certain Bothriocephalus species (Cestoda: Pseudophyllidea).”

In 1996-2000 received a grant for a three-year program on “Science and Techniques of Officinal Plants” directed to isolation of essential oils from plants, their GLC analysis and determination of their microbiological activity at the Department of Bioorganic Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Pisa.

In 2000-2002 received grant for parasitological, bacteriological and mycological analysis of stools and litters in bird and laboratory animal breedings and for sanitary control of fish breedings.

Researcher in Veterinary Parasitology and Parasitic disease since 1992 , he focused on Veterinary entomology working especially in the susceptibility of various arthropods to substances of natural origin and their constituents.

In 2008 received a grant for the course “Management of programmes for communicable diseases control in Sub-Saharan Africa”, organized by Ivo de Carneri foundation supported by "Istituto di Malattie Infettive e Tropicali, Università di Brescia" in laboratory of "Sanita’ Pubblica Ivo de Carneri" on Pemba island (Tanzania) from 10th to 21st of Novembre 2008.

Since 2010 he collaborates in the project "Strengthening of health services in the Bolivian Chaco: an EU perspective“ Bolivia - Chaco “in collaboration with “Asociación del Pueblo Guarani (APG); Teko Guarani; Lidivet (Laboratorio de Investigación y Veterinary Diagnostic); Cenetrop (Centro Nacional Enfermedades Tropicales); INLASA (Instituto Nacional de Laboratorios de Salud); Gerencias de Salud of the 5 provinces Chaco; Dilos (Directorios locales de Salud); CIDOB (Confederation of Indigenous Peoples of Bolivia)

Furthermore, since 2010 Fabio collaborates with the Institut für Parasitologie Vetsuisse-Fakultät und Medizinische Fakultät Zürich on parasitic diseases of wild animals.

His main research areas are:
1) Endoparasites of sympatric wild and domestic carnivores
2) Zoonotic diseases in the Bolivian Chaco South America
3) Insects

Fabio is currently a lecturer in parasitology at Pisa University and at school of Health Public of the Chaco Bolivian “Tekove Katu” in Gutierrez Bolivia.

Dott. Papini Roberto Americo

Linee di Ricerca

Dr Roberto Amerigo Papini completed his veterinary degree with a dissertation on the therapy of Visceral Larva Migrans caused by larvae L2 of Toxocara canis at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Pisa, where he also was qualified for the profession of veterinary practitioner. He completed seven years of training in veterinary parasitology with a Research Fellowship granted by Italian National Research Council both at the Parasitology service of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Pisa and at the Parasitology service of the National Veterinary School of Toulouse (France). During this time he underwent a specialization in Pathology and Clinics of Small Animal Diseases. After ten years as technical assistant, he became a researcher and in 2004 he gained his diploma of the European Veterinary Parasitology College. He also holds a Master in Clinics of Behavioral Diseases of Dogs and Cats from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Turin. He has a keen research interest in parasitic agents transmissible from animals to humans and is very experienced in techniques concerning in vivo studies on Visceral Larva Migrans. In last years, his current main research interest is the zoonotic role of Giardia duodenalis and Toxoplasma gondii with a focus on contaminated food sources.
